Dr. Doty is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a member of the Intermountain Medical Group and is an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at the University of Utah. Dr. Doty graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his general surgery residency, he spent two years in the Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Hospital studying spinal cord protection during aortic surgery and developing the Residents' Section on CTSNet. During his cardiothoracic surgery residency, Dr. Doty also spent several months as a registrar at the Greenlane Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.
His clinical interests include the surgical treatment of:
- aortic valve and aortic root disease
- open and endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysm
- Marfan syndrome
- atrial fibrillation
- heart failure, including transplantation
- congenital chest wall deformities
- adult congenital heart disease
- superior vena cava obstruction
His research and academic interests include:
- surgical education and teaching
- electronic and Internet-based learning
- clinical outcomes of cardiac surgery
